BKL’s Wendy Harpur wins international award

We’re thrilled to share the news that Wendy Harpur, our People Director, is the winner of AGN International’s Women of Impact Awards.

The awards were set up this year to celebrate women working at AGN’s member firms (nearly 200 accounting businesses in over 80 countries) who have made exceptional contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Wendy was announced as the winner on 21 May to conclude AGN’s Global e-Connected virtual event week.

The award recognises Wendy’s leading role in championing the value and potential of people, particularly through inclusion, wellbeing and innovation.

Wendy’s achievements in 2020 and 2021 have included:

  • Spearheading new systems and internal groups to improve feedback, inclusion and wellbeing within BKL at all levels
  • Leading BKL’s first all-female team
  • Helping BKL’s clients during the pandemic by offering furlough and redundancy consultations
  • Co-founding the Beat Bullying Collective, tackling workplace bullying and providing free support to hundreds
  • Becoming a trained COVID-19 vaccine volunteer with St John Ambulance

Adding to the good news, the Women of Impact Awards finalists also included Myfanwy Neville, BKL’s Property and Construction Partner.

Wendy commented: “I was honoured to be chosen as a finalist in the AGN Women of Impact Awards and I’m overwhelmed to have won.

“During the pandemic, making a difference to our colleagues and communities has been more valuable than ever. Thank you to AGN for recognising the importance of the work done by HR professionals all over the world to create a happy, productive and fair environment for everyone.

“I’m grateful to everyone at BKL for the opportunities they’ve given me and supported me through. The best way to make an impact is together and I look forward to continuing that in the months and years ahead.”

Lee Brook, Managing Partner at BKL, said: “2020 was Wendy’s first full year as our People Director. She could not have foreseen all the challenges but rises to them all, and helps colleagues to do the same.

“Her commitment and enthusiasm set examples not just to female colleagues but to all of us. She helps us appreciate each other better. We couldn’t be prouder of her for winning the AGN Women of Impact Awards.”

As the Women of Impact Awards winner, Wendy is due to be a guest at AGN’s World Congress in Miami later this year.
