For those companies that have furloughed staff and need to know how the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme claim can be made, we have obtained an update from HMRC.

The portal where claims can be made will be launched by HMRC on Monday 20 April. HMRC are expecting their phone service to be under intense pressure and so the portal is designed to be a self-serve function with guidance in place when it is launched.

HMRC have confirmed that where agent authority is in place with HMRC for PAYE matters, agents will be able to make the claim on behalf of their clients. If agents or payroll bureaus are ‘file only agents’ i.e. file payroll with no HMRC authority, they will not be able to make the claim.

At BKL we are well prepared to assist both clients and contacts of the firm. If we are not your agent then we can ask for authority from HMRC so that we can make claims on your behalf.

If you would like help using the form or with any other aspects of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, please get in touch with your usual BKL contact or use our enquiry form.

Our coronavirus hub is continually updated with guidance and information on all the government’s schemes to support businesses and individuals.
