Welcome to BKL: our new trainees

Insights, News

We enjoy welcoming new colleagues to BKL and this year we’ve had more opportunities than ever before. 12 new trainees joined us over the summer: a record intake for the firm.

The trainees will be studying for a range of accounting and tax qualifications: AAT, ACA/CTA and ATT. While they study, they will be working in our accounts, assurance, outsourcing and tax teams. They will also get opportunities to learn about other areas of BKL, including marketing and human resources.

A variety of paths have brought the trainees to us. Six are graduates, two are postgraduates and four are school leavers.

Outside work, our trainees enjoy hiking, public speaking, cinema and sports. Between them they speak 7 second languages from Persian to Ukrainian.

Jeff Hartstone, our senior partner, says: “We’re delighted that our latest intake of trainees is so strong in quantity and quality. They’ve already shown a willingness to learn and to contribute to life at BKL. We look forward to getting to know them and helping them to achieve their potential.”

Paul Hopkins, our HR director, says: “When people join BKL, the success is joint: their hard work has led to a role at a Top 50 accountancy firm; our hard work on recruitment has brought us great new colleagues. That’s certainly true of our new trainees.

“We’re excited to see how this diverse group will make a difference to BKL in the coming years: not just to our growth as a business but to our development as a community.”
