‘My work experience at BKL was great to find out more about the accounting field. Within larger organisations, it’s often difficult to gain a good perspective on different divisions within an accounting firm. At BKL, the size and scope of the work was great for anyone unfamiliar to the field.
In my two weeks of work experience, I hoped to gain more experience in the field of Bookkeeping, but also take responsibility for jobs within the Personal Tax and Audit Departments. My aims were to explore the possibility for a future career in accountancy, and I managed to gain great insights by talking to current employees about their professional development through work experience and their ACA/CTA studies.
For my placement, I completed various jobs using Sage 50 accounts, Caseware and Excel. The work was challenging at times, but I received lots of help from employees – particularly Dave Rogers who was my supervisor. In two weeks, I learnt a lot about the processes within an accountancy firm, and the highlight was being able to experience a live audit at an external firm. The work experience was insightful and I readily recommend it to any students keen to explore a career in financial accounting and tax related services!’
