Extension Levy Looms Large

‘The Sunday Times reports on a new planning tax which could add tens of thousands of pounds to the cost of a big extension.

The community infrastructure levy will affect householders who plan on adding a large basement or extension.

It has already been introduced in some areas and will apply across England and Wales from April. It is noted that each local authority will set their own rate, while homeowners are advised to apply for planning permission by April 1st to avoid any charges. The paper carries a number of case studies.’
