Property title fraud rises

‘Property title fraud claims have hit a three-year high, according to new data. The data, obtained through a series of Freedom of Information requests by Titlesolv, shows the Land Registry received a total of £23.3m of claims last year and nearly £9m was paid out in compensation against them. Chris Taylor, the CEO of insurance and property risk solutions provider, Titlesolv, said: “Despite best efforts, significant amounts of money continue to be lost . . . due to fraud and forgery of property title deeds, with the Land Registry bearing the brunt of these costs.” Since the start of 2012, the Land Registry indemnity fund has received more than £59m in compensation claims and paid out more than £31m against them.’
