‘Dozens of wealthy investors are preparing a £100m class action against their former legal advisers, arguing they were victims of mis-selling. The claimants, including celebrities and sportsmen, say they were urged to join complex film finance schemes to reduce their tax bills which were then challenged in the courts by HMRC – resulting in huge tax claims against investors. Alex Fox of Penningtons Manches, which is leading the legal action, said that many of those affected were not aware that they could soon run out of time to join the action. He explained: “The general principle is that people who were given dodgy advice have six years. In some cases the limitation period for mis-selling claims will expire in the next few weeks or even days.”
