Panel: Making AI Humanly Possible

Events & Webinars

Hollie Moore, our Early Careers Manager, business services expert and Silverfin specialist, explored AI adoption in the accountancy sector via Silverfin’s panel at the Digital Accountancy Show 2025.

The panel was hosted by Phil Hobden, UK Sales Lead at Silverfin. It also featured Angus Macgregor, Chief People Officer at Shaw Gibbs; and Richard Spofforth; Head of Accounts & Outsourcing at Kreston Reeves.

Together, they discussed AI’s impact not only on automation but also on how firms structure, train and support their teams.

Hollie’s insights

“[AI at BKL] means our juniors are getting involved in ‘meatier’ parts of the job sooner, which accelerates their growth and keeps them engaged.”

“Are we creating a generation of accountants who don’t really understand what’s happening in the background? If we skip foundational skills like double-entry bookkeeping, what happens when the tech goes wrong?”

“Training in accountancy hasn’t really evolved for years. Right now, we teach people how to use the software—but not what it’s actually doing. That has to change.”

‘“We need to create space for new ideas. People moving between firms often bring brilliant approaches with them. Are we set up to hear them?”

Thank you to Silverfin for recording these insights. More discussion points from the session are available on the Silverfin website.
