The Young Enterprise in London Company of the Year Programme

The North London Final of the Young Enterprise in London Company of the Year Programme was again hosted by BKL, with our very own Marjorie Bremner acting as a judge. Students from Highgate School, Grieg City Academy, Henrietta Barnet, Jewish Community Secondary School and Coptall competed, with the finals held at the prestigious offices of Pentland Plc in 2014.

The judges were looking for evidence of innovation and entrepreneurship, the successful exploitation of new ideas in all aspects of running the company and an understanding that continuous improvement is essential.  Other judging criteria included marketing, selling and customer focus, financial performance, objective setting and problem solving, social ethical and environments issues and company administration.

The students were invited to present the key experiences and achievements of the company and how the students learnt from any mistakes.  A company report was also required to summarise the team’s year in business.

The team at BKL were delighted to have so many talented students taking part – in particular due to the strong ethic of the practice of giving back to the community, and also of its inward focus on training and developing members of staff – both as part of  school-leaver/graduate training capacity, and in identifying and developing the stars of the future.
