‘The Independent reports that there is growing pressure from all parties on George Osborne to boost housebuilding to kick-start the economy and create jobs. The Chancellor is being urged to use his spending review in June to give the go-ahead to the building of up to 100,000 council and housing association homes.
The pressure increased yesterday after new figures, obtained by Lord Oakeshott, the Lib Dem peer, showed that two million council houses and flats have been sold since the “right to buy” policy was introduced in 1980, the same number of people now on local authority waiting lists.’
