A Freelancers’ Accountant – Welcome to my world

Uncategorised

Last night I attended the 2014 National Freelancers Day event in London, run by IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed. It’s quite clear that freelancing is becoming the “third way” in the world of work, especially among creatives and professionals.

IPSE’s new manifesto, “Britain’s Secret Weapon” calls for, amongst other things, the appointment of a minister for the self-employed and, whilst the Government hasn’t so far gone that far, they have nevertheless appointed David Morris MP as the new ambassador for the self-employed or “Tsar” as he was referred to when he was a surprise guest at NFD last night.

Clearly freelancers have a long way to go before they get the recognition they deserve for the contribution they make to UK plc but it’s a start. I’m sure that all freelancers would still want to see HMRC’s “IR35” rules scrapped, as they still cause unnecessary fear, uncertainty and doubt amongst people who just want to be left alone to run their own businesses.
