Councils Plead for More Help Building Homes

‘The FT reports that local authorities across Britain will urge the Chancellor to use the Budget to end restrictions on their ability to borrow money allowing them to build more homes.

The Local Government Association will back an amendment to the Growth and Infrastructure Bill which is being discussed in the House of Lords on Tuesday.

The LGA believes that relaxing a cap on the amount councils can borrow will enable them to build 60,000 homes and boost GDP by 0.6%. The Chartered Institute of Housing, the Home Builders Federation and the National Housing Federation have also recommend the Treasury scraps the cap.’
