Ditch extension plans

A cross-party group of MPs has suggested that plans to make it easier for householders and businesses to build extensions should be dropped.

The Communities and Local Government Committee found “little or no evidence” that the Government had considered the impact on local neighbourhoods, while it added there was no evidence that building firms would benefit from the plans.

The MPs warned that the greater size of single-storey extensions would provoke more disputes between neighbours and risk creating a rash of unsightly buildings.

We say: It’s difficult to see how it can be true that building firms won’t benefit from the plans. Who else is going to be building these extensions? We aren’t all a dab-hand at bricklaying and plumbing you know…
