Frequently asked questions: sustainability and B Corp
What does BKL’s Impact Project Manager do?
Our Impact Project Manager oversees all aspects of environment, social and governance (ESG) activity across BKL – working closely with our Head of Governance and Sustainability.
The role focuses on maximising our positive impact, such as working with communities and charities; and minimising negative impacts, including reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our supply chain to reduce theirs too.
It also encompasses helping BKL to recertify as a B Corp under the new B Corp Standards that are effective from 2026.
Why did BKL decide to become a B Corp?
BKL became a Certified B Corp in September 2022, ahead of many larger firms in the accountancy sector.
The decision to pursue B Corp certification in 2022 grew out of the lessons we learned during Covid lockdown in 2020. That period showed us that businesses can operate differently and still thrive. As we planned for the future, we wanted to build a business that was deliberately, structurally good with a capital G.
We explored frameworks that could guide us, and B Corp stood out as one of the few that covers the full spectrum of environmental, social and governance standards. It offered a clear, comprehensive way to shape the kind of business we wanted to be.
How does being a B Corp influence how external stakeholders see BKL?
Becoming a B Corp has been a strong attraction for new employees. Many people who join us do so because B Corp certification signals that BKL is committed to responsibility, ethics and longterm positive impact. This includes our Chief People Officer Greg McCaw.
We now receive more potential client enquiries from:
- Existing B Corps
- Organisations aspiring to become B Corps
- Businesses seeking advisers who understand the broader ESG landscape.
Being a B Corp helps clients recognise that we can support them not only through traditional accounting services, but also through valuesled, sustainabilityaligned expertise.
What sustainability services does BKL offer clients?
We provide a broad range of sustainability support, including:
- Boardlevel and strategic ESG advice
- Support on carbon accounting
- Preparation of SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) reports
- Additional sustainabilityrelated guidance tailored to organisational needs
These services help clients strengthen their ESG performance and navigate evolving expectations around environmental and social responsibility.
